Document Check: compare versions and count pages
See every change between an original and a revised text, word by word. Count words and pages and catch common slips.
This compares your two versions with each other. It does not search the internet and says nothing about plagiarism.
Sentence counts are approximate. A scan counts every started page of 1,800 characters.
Four jobs for the last round of edits
Useful after a plagiarism report, before a re-scan and before you hand in.
Version compare
Put your original next to the revised text. Removed words are struck through, new words are highlighted. Moved paragraphs show as removed and added.
Words, characters, pages
Words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, standard pages and the number of pages a scan counts.
Formal check
Finds Word cross-reference errors, leftover placeholders, repeated words, double spaces, skipped heading levels and gaps in figure and table numbers.
Text, Word and PDF
Paste text or open a .txt, .docx or PDF with selectable text. For Word files it also counts comments and tracked changes.
Stays in your browser
Reading, comparing and counting all happen on your device. Your document is never sent to a server.
Export the result
Download the revised text with every change marked, or copy the numbers into your notes.
From first draft to re-scan in three steps
Add your texts
Paste the original and the revised text, or open a file for each one.
Review the changes
Read the highlighted differences and check the share of wording you kept and the share that is new.
Check the new version
Fix the slips the formal check finds, then run a plagiarism scan on the final file.
What this tool does not do
It does not judge originality
The comparison measures how much your own text changed, not whether it is free of plagiarism. Rewording does not replace a citation. To see how the new version performs, run a plagiarism scan.
It does not read everything
Headers, footers, footnotes and text in images are not read. Scanned PDFs have no text to read. Verify your references separately with the Source Check.
Data handling: files and text are processed in your browser only. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. Very large changes between versions can be shown in blocks instead of word by word.
Questions about the Document Check
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it. Each text can have up to 200,000 characters, which is roughly 110 standard pages.
No. Files and pasted text are read and compared in your browser. Nothing is sent to our server and nothing is stored, not even in local storage. If you close or reload the page, the text is gone.
Plain text (.txt, UTF-8), Word (.docx) and PDF files with selectable text, up to 8 MB. For Word files the main text is read, including tables, but not headers, footers, footnotes or text inside images. Scanned PDFs and the old .doc format are not supported. For those, paste the text instead.
It matches the two texts paragraph by paragraph and then word by word. Words only in the original are struck through on the left, words only in the revised version are highlighted on the right. A paragraph you moved shows up as removed in one place and added in another. You can ignore capitalization and punctuation if you only care about the words.
Not necessarily. Changing words does not fix a missing citation or a passage that still follows its source too closely. The comparison only tells you how much of your own text changed. To find out how the new version looks to a plagiarism checker, run a new scan.
A standard page here is 1,800 characters including spaces. The tool shows the exact value, for example 2.4 pages. Our plagiarism scan counts every started page, so 2.4 standard pages are billed as 3 pages.
Word cross-reference errors, leftover placeholders such as TODO or [insert citation], repeated words, double spaces, skipped heading levels, gaps in figure and table numbering, a missing reference list heading, and comments or tracked changes in .docx files. It is a short list of common slips. It does not judge content or check your institution's formatting rules.
