University of Central Florida Plagiarism and AI Policy

Last verified October 24, 2026 · AI-assisted research and drafting · Maintained by Plagiarism Checker Online, operated by Markus Nick

The short answer: According to the published guidance checked October 24, 2026: UCF's Responsible AI Use guidance directs students to their syllabi and asks them to clarify unstated rules with the instructor. Intentional AI assistance must be disclosed; embedded predictive text, autocorrect and spell check are exempt from that general disclosure requirement. Grammar-assistance disclosure may depend on faculty policy. Disclosure does not authorize otherwise prohibited use.

Transcript designationThe Z designation records academic misconduct in a course without itself affecting GPA. It applies for the listed deferred suspension, suspension, dismissal or expulsion sanctions, or a second finding during a UCF academic career regardless of lesser sanctions; in the latter case both courses receive it. Grade forgiveness does not remove it. CREED completion permits consideration for removal, not automatic removal.Source

What students at University of Central Florida should know

UCF's published AI guidance separates permission from disclosure. Your syllabus determines whether and how you may use AI; when it is silent, ask the instructor rather than assume permission. Intentional AI assistance with a work product must be disclosed, but the guidance excludes embedded features such as predictive text, autocorrect and spell check from that general requirement. Grammar-assistance disclosure can still depend on the instructor. This distinction matters when describing your workflow: identify what you deliberately asked a tool to do, not merely which software you opened. The Student Code separately lists unauthorized AI use and unapproved multiple submissions as academic misconduct. UCF also publishes a specific transcript rule. A Z designation can accompany certain suspension, dismissal or expulsion sanctions, or follow a second academic-misconduct finding even when the sanctions were less severe. It is not itself a grade-point penalty, and ordinary grade forgiveness does not remove it. CREED Program completion allows consideration for removal, not guaranteed removal. If a formal non-Title-IX hearing finds you responsible, the SCAI appeal page states a written appeal to the Appellate Officer is due within ten business days after notification of the decision. Contact SCAI for the applicable grounds and case instructions. Do not treat either a Z rule or an AI-tool result as a forecast of your own case.

Frequently asked questions

Not under the general Responsible AI Use guidance: embedded predictive text, autocorrect and spell check are exempt. Disclosure of grammar assistance may depend on the instructor's policy. Intentional AI assistance with a work product otherwise must be disclosed, and your syllabus still determines whether that use is allowed.

The SCAI Z-designation page says grade forgiveness may improve the letter grade but leaves the Z designation in place. Students can seek consideration for removal through the CREED Program; completing its requirements does not guarantee removal.

For the non-Title-IX formal-hearing route described by SCAI, the appeal must be written to the Appellate Officer within ten business days after notification of the decision. Consult the linked process for applicable grounds and instructions; do not assume it covers a different disposition or a Title IX case.
